The Granite Bay Library recently received some much-needed attention to its landscaping, thanks to the hard work of local volunteers.
Over the past few weeks, the Friends of the Granite Bay Library partnered with the Boys Team Charity, Granite Bay League, on a volunteer landscaping project to improve and care for the library grounds.
Over two Sundays, volunteers came together to get to work, with the boys putting in hours of hard work alongside community members to help transform the landscape. Together, volunteers spread 100 yards of mulch, generously donated by Placer County Parks, and tackled projects throughout the library grounds.
The project was a wonderful example of what a community can accomplish when people come together and are willing to roll up their sleeves and put in the work. The result is a more welcoming and well-cared-for library for the entire Granite Bay community to enjoy.
The Boys Team Charity, Inc. (BTC) is a national volunteer service organization for boy’s 7th through 12th grade and their parents. The nonprofit was founded in 2001 by families who wanted to teach their sons the importance of giving back and making a difference in their local community. They are dedicated to developing an altruistic spirit in young men through active participation of parents and teens in philanthropic projects in their communities.
One of BTC’s primary objectives is to provide opportunities for their members to use their time and talents to support their local philanthropies, to build a sense of social responsibility within their communities. This is the 3rd year BTC year has partnered with the Friends of the Granite Bay Library in a “Beautification Project” to spruce up the Granite Bay Library’s grounds.
“The Friends of the Granite Bay Library are excited to once again work with the local Granite Bay BTC league to help revitalize our library grounds. It’s a wonderful partnership with the boys and their families and truly demonstrates the effectiveness of bringing together members of the community to make a positive difference. One of the unique aspects of this organization is that the volunteer projects require parent-son joint participation. It’s a combination of teaching, learning, and bonding,” said Debby Bedwell, Friends of the Granite Bay Board President.
