Big Day of Giving – May 1st

What (and when) is Big Day of Giving?

  • Big Day of Giving is Thursday, May 1st, at www.bigdayofgiving.org!
  • Big Day of Giving is the region’s annual 24-hour giving day hosted by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.

We invite you to spread the joy of reading by giving to your local library on May 1st with Friends of the Granite Bay Library!

Since established in 1990, Friends of the Granite Bay Library has been enriching the community by:

  • funding and organizing children’s and adult programs
  • purchasing new books and materials for Granite Bay Library’s permanent collection
  • improving the library grounds by landscaping, clearing bramble and deadwood, and laying down mulch and bark with the BTC (Boys Team Charity)
  • providing book sales and accepting book donations
  • building and maintaining 10 Little Libraries around the community
  • working with other local non-profits and charities such as NCL (National Charity League), BTC, Fitrah, Rotary Club of Granite Bay, Scout Troop 121.

Friends of the Granite Bay Library has also been fortunate to help during the wildfires in Lahaina and Los Angeles:

  • In 2023 we donated 35 boxes of books to help rebuild the Lahaina libraries. A local resident and former resident of Lahaina reached out to us to help support them in providing books for a library at Princess Nāhiʻenaʻena elementary school in Lahaina. Through the generosity of others in the community all the donated books were shipped to different hubs  to set up a temporary library in Lahaina
  • During the 2025 wildfires in Los Angeles, The Friends of the Granite Bay Library partnered with another local resident to provide essential books to help the young minds at Calvary Christian School. One of the schools in the Pacific Palisades region. We were able to quickly assemble 20 boxes of books to be delivered.

Every dollar donated, every book donated, every volunteer hour goes right back to our library that serves our community.
